Make your own Ceramic Lamp (Beginners handbuilding workshop)
This workshop offers you the opportunity to build your own ceramic lamp-base made from clay. Spread over 4 sessions, we will be working on a concept and design for your lamp and implement it by using different handbuilding and glazing techniques. To meet your individual style you'll bring your own lampshade and bulb – old or new – because we love recycling and maybe you always wanted to reuse that old lampshade sitting in your basement for ages, too. Now you can!
1. Session: Friday 6-8pm
We will start with a short 30 minute introduction by our teacher Phyllis. She built plenty of lamps herself and will guide you through the different steps we will take within this class to make a lamp from clay (follow this link to see her instagram). Afterwards you'll be given enough time to think your design through and conceptualize a plan of how to build it.
2. Session: Sunday 11am-1pm
This day will be all about getting your hands in clay. We have two hours to get you set up and make your design and ideas come true! During that time Phyllis and I will be around to answer your questions and help you out.
3. Session: Sunday 11am-1pm
One week later after your lamp-base has been fired once, we will take some time for glazing it together! We will explain how to prepare a glazing session, followed by a demonstration on how to use different techniques like dipping, cross-dipping, puring or brushing to add some color to your base. Afterwards you will have enough time to implement the design you decided on in our first session.
4. Session: Sunday 11am-1pm
Once we glaze-fired your creations, it's time to assemble your lamp-base with all its necessary parts! Phyllis will guide you through the process and make sure all lamps are put together correctly. And that's it, you will take home your handmade ceramic lamp the same day!
How to prepare for the class: You will need to bring your own old or new lampshade (maximum size in diameter: 30cm) and a bulb (E27). For the classes you might want to wear something you wouldn‘t mind getting a little dirty as well as shorten your finger nails. We will provide an apron and all necessary tools for every participant.
Picking-Up Your Lamp: We will finish your lamp in session 4. and you will be taking it home with you the same day. Please make sure to bring something to wrap it up safely (e.g. towel) and a bag big enough to carry it home.
Cancellation Policy: In case you need to cancel your booking please do so 10 days prior to our first session in order to get a refund. Also please make sure to block all dates of the sessions as they are fixed. Missed classes can not be reimbursed or repeated.
Location: All classes take place at our Studio at Christinenstraße 32 in 10119 Berlin Prenzlauer Berg and the minimum number of participants in order for the class to take place is four.
Please note: By booking this class you assure that you have a private liability insurance.
